Churchill Estates at Lake Highlands received the Silver Achievement Award during the 2009 Best of 50+ Housing Awards, the industry's premier awards program honoring excellence in building, design, and marketing for the seniors housing industry. The annual awards program, presented by The National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) 50+ Housing Council, announced the winners during the Building for Boomers and Beyond: 50+ Housing Symposium in Philadelphia on April 28, 2009.
The project was recognized in the Multifamily Housing Overall Market Rate Rental Community "On the Boards" category. The elite panel of judges that included builders, developers, architects, and other respected industry professionals, recognized the project as "a wonderful approach working with the community to replace a crime ridden derelict apartment building in an established neighborhood."
Churchill Estates at Lake Highlands, developed by Churchill Residential, Inc., is a 175 unit luxury apartment community designed for active adults over the age of 55. The community will offer gourmet meals, a wellness center, movie studio, bistro, and billiards room. In addition, an emphasis will be placed on healthy lifestyle choices and getting involved in a wide range of activities and events. KWA Construction, L.P. is scheduled to complete construction of the community fall 2009. Upon completion, Churchill Estates at Lake Highlands will be certified as a Green Built Texas project, green building program committed to creating awareness and interest in the construction of higher-performance, lower-impact homes in Texas.
