KWA’s Hillside West Senior Living brings retirement-living options for area residents ages 55+.
Adding to the rapidly growing area of The Canyon in Oak Cliff, KWA recently completed Hillside West Senior Living – North Oak Cliff’s only senior-housing development for residents ages 55+. This 130-unit, senior-customized complex provides affordable housing options within a 200-plus-acre area of Oak Cliff, Texas, which is currently undergoing a $600 MM mixed-use, master-planned revitalization project of residential, retail and office developments.
KWA was hired by Ground Floor Development to build a 155,846 square-foot, affordable housing development, situated on an odd parcel shape of land in North Oak Cliff. This odd shape posed a challenge to construct the complex exactly to the developer’s directive – provide as many views of Downtown as possible, create easy access to all of the property’s amenities within enclosed air-conditioned corridors, and maximize the number of units possible, all while ensuring a senior-safe environment for the residents. KWA met the challenge and delivered the developer’s vision by selecting appropriate building materials, working closely with the city and collaborating with the designers and consultants.
“We definitely faced some construction challenges with Hillside West, but we knew that with tight collaboration with all parties and some hard work, we would ultimately develop a dynamic building with beautiful views of Downtown Dallas,” said KWA Construction Project Manager Dennis Downey. “The City of Dallas’ enthusiastic support and cooperation through various city services, as well as franchise utilities Oncor and Atmos Energy, helped us make sure we covered all aspects of Hillside West.”
Hillside West Senior Living now gives long-term Oak Cliff residents the option to continue living in the area that they’ve grown to love and support for many years.
“I can certainly attest to the aging population’s desire to continue living within our own communities, in which we’ve raised kids, established and improved neighborhoods, and contributed to community improvements,” says KWA Construction President Keller Webster. “Until Hillside West Senior Living, the 55-plus demographic in North Oak Cliff didn’t have a senior-specific development as an option for retirement living. KWA is proud to bring that missing piece to the Oak Cliff area with the construction of Hillside West.”
Hillside West Senior Living’s complex was also designed to enhance its residents’ living experience with its resort-style pool and lounging deck, grilling stations, open gazebos and picnic areas, an elegant clubhouse with a dining room and activity room, a business center, and a fitness center. Resident services include door-to-door trash pickup, 24-hour emergency maintenance, basic adult education, financial planning, legal assistance, health screenings, counseling services and a social calendar of activities.
The Hillside West Senior Living development marks KWA’s fourth senior housing project to complete. Some of KWA’s other completed 55+ developments include McDermott Crossing, located in Plano, Texas, and Churchill Estates, located in Dallas, Texas.
